Can you kill coronavirus with UV light?
Sunlight contains three types of UV. First there is UVA, which is capable of penetrating deep into the skin and is thought to be responsible for up to 80% of skin aging, from wrinkles to age spots. Next, there’s UVB, which can damage the DNA in our skin, leading to sunburn and eventually skin cancer
There is also a third type: UVC. This relatively obscure part of the spectrum consists of a shorter, more energetic wavelength of light. It is particularly good at destroying genetic material – whether in humans or viral particles. Luckily, most of us are unlikely to have ever encountered any. That’s because it’s filtered out by ozone in the atmosphere long before it reaches our fragile skin. UVC has become a staple method of sterilization – one used in hospitals, airplanes, offices, and factories every day. Crucially, it’s also fundamental to the process of sanitizing drinking water; some parasites are resistant to chemical disinfectants such as chlorine, so it provides a failsafe.
Studies have shown that it can be used against other coronaviruses, such as Sars. The radiation warps the structure of their genetic material and prevents viral particles from making more copies of themselves.
What is BOX360?
Whether we like to think about it or not, germs are everywhere. However, UV disinfection is a proven, safe, and effective solution to help protect our world against harmful bacteria and viruses. With the advanced and proven technology from Safwey, We have developed cost-effective ways to bring clinical-level protection to everyday use products which are used in multiple industries. One of them is BOX360.
BOX360 is a range of UV-C Cabinets which are Ideal for limiting the import of pathogens through everyday items like cell phones, food packets, eyeglasses, cell phones & i-pads, laptops, files, stationery, tools, and other small items required sterilization
How is BOX360 Different?
- Primarily, the BOX is made up of medical-grade stainless steel.
- The box comes with a range of safety features like auto-off on opening the door ETC.
- Easy to use, one-button operation
- Removable Shelf supports small items (Removable to keep office files etc. or bigger items)
- BOX 360 Portable UV-C Chamber is an eco-friendly and cost-effective tool that uses ultraviolet C (UV-C) light sterilization to kill viruses and other pathogens before they enter secure areas. The Box 360 UV-C light fixes key vulnerabilities found on everyday items like food packets, cell phones & i-pads, laptops, salons, beauty parlors, industries, offices, office files and documents, medical and research labs, hospitals, etc. by destroying the bacteria’s ability to multiply and spread disease.
How is BOX360 different than the UV sterilization boxes already available in salons and hospitals?
BOX360 is specifically designed and calibrated as per the FDA and NIH research paper to deliver the recommended UVC wavelength and the recommended UVC dose per cm2 on the surface of an object placed inside the Oven. Moreover, the unique 360-degree illumination design ensures that each point on the surface of an object placed inside the BOX receives the required wavelength and the required UV dose without the generation of a shadow area. Most UV boxes in the market, in saloons and in hospitals were designed for broad-spectrum UV light and not specifically for delivering 254 nm UVC. Moreover, UV light placement in such boxes does not ensure 360- degree irradiation. This leads to the generation of shadow areas on objects placed inside these boxes which leaves patches of unexposed surfaces making such UV boxes unsuitable for decontaminating all surfaces at the same time. Also, such commercial boxes are not calibrated to deliver the UV light dose as per the FDA and NIH, making them highly ineffective in inactivating Coronaviruses.
Is it safe for food items and vegetables?
Absolutely. UVC light has constrained infiltration and can’t enter dark, strong articles and henceforth can be powerful in sterilizing food item surfaces. Treatment with UV-C light offers a few focal points for food purification as it doesn’t leave any buildup synthetic concoctions in treated food, it is anything but difficult to utilize and deadly to most kinds of microorganisms.
Can we use it for mobile phones, laptops, or iPads?
Yes, electronic devices can be disinfected.
Can it sanitize medicines?
No, it may cause structural changes in the medicines which may alter the drug composition. We do not recommend the use of BOX360 for sterilizing medicines.
What is the life and warranty of the device?
There is a one-year warranty on the device. Normal UVC lamps have a life span of 9,000 hours or approximately 12 months of continuous usage. It is generally recommended to change the UVC lamps after the recommended period.
What should be the effective duration for each UV-C exposure?
The duration for effectiveness will vary by the object. However, a treatment duration of 10-12 minutes shall be sufficient enough to sanitize and disinfect the surfaces properly.
